Police hunt two patients who escaped from KK psychiatric hospital

KOTA KINABALU: Police are tracking two male patients, believed to have escaped while receiving treatment at Mesra Bukit Padang Hospital here, on Friday (September 4).

Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji said both patients disappeared after they were taken from their respective rooms around 3pm for afternoon tea.

Habibi said her disappearance was noticed by one of the hospital staff members during a routine inspection of the ward at 3.45 p.m.

“The first suspect is an offender under Section 14 (A) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017 from Kota Kinabalu Prison and was admitted to the forensic room on May 10 last year for intellectual disability treatment mild by order of the Kota Kinabalu court.

“Meanwhile, the second suspect is an offender under Section 302 of the Tawau Penal Code and was referred to the hospital on January 14 last year for schizophrenia,” he said in a statement today.
