KOTA KINABALU: Two mentally unstable patients escaped from Mesra Bukit Padang Hospital on Friday (September 4).

The duo, Nurfazzrynn Fazir, 26, and Zulhijam Ali, 30, left their cells for evening tea at around 3 p.m. before their disappearance.

Nurfazzrynn was admitted to hospital by court order on May 10 last year for mild intellectual disability treatment after he was arrested for sexual offenses against children.

Zulhijam, who hails from Tawau, is schizophrenic.

Habibi Majinji, assistant commander for Kota Kinabalu OCPD, said hospital staff noticed that they were not sitting in the dining room about 15 minutes after the duo were released from their cells.

“A search was mounted, but they were nowhere to be found within the vicinity of the hospital and a police report was filed around 4.25pm,” he said in a statement here on Sunday (September 6).

The patients are believed to have escaped the facility through a door rack near the dining room, before passing through the doors.

ACP Habibi urged the public to be on the lookout for suspects and to contact the Kota Kinabalu Police Station at 088-529220 or the officer in charge, Insp P. Palani Nathan at 016-4122835 if they have any information about the duo.

They can also share any information about this case on IPD Kota Kinabalu’s Facebook page, he added.
