KOTA KINABALU: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has called on Sabahans to send a clear signal to the federal government of Perikatan Nasional (PN) using their vote in the Sabah state elections next month to end the policy of sponsorship.

Stating that the current federal government was more interested in propping up its own position in Parliament rather than caring for the people, Anwar said it was time to lower the curtains on PN rule.

“What is the government’s approach now? How to increase the rewards for your parliamentarians and add that with positions in companies linked to the government, it does not matter if they are qualified or not ”, he said during the launch tonight of the electoral machinery of the PKR for the state elections.

Anwar, who is president of PKR, said: “We have never had so many ministries before and parliamentarians are paid so high. While, at the same time, there are almost a million people out of work even in Sabah ”.

He said that the country faces an economic fallout due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the nation is run by a government whose position is unstable.

“The last vote (in parliament) was 111 votes (for PN) against 109 (for the opposition) … not even the prime minister can sleep soundly. So this is your chance in this election to send a clear signal … enough is enough. Enough of corruption, racism and intolerance. “

He said PKR deserves to receive a fair and equitable allocation of seats due to its long-standing presence in Sabah. The party made its first foray into state elections in 2001.

“PKR should be given the opportunity and space to assign seats like our other partners. I will meet with Shafie Apdal, who is the president of Warisan, tomorrow morning to convey the aspirations of our divisions and leaders. I will present it in a good way and reassure our partners that our candidates are good and we will also help our friends, ”he said.

Anwar also highlighted the importance of the PKR logo. “Do not look lightly at the PKR flag because it was that flag that won us (Pakatan Harapan) in the last general elections,” he said, to loud applause from the ground.
