KLUANG: The General Operations Force (GOF) arrested a 39-year-old man and seized more than 9,600 bottles of counterfeit alcohol from a factory in the Wawasan industrial area near Kampung Batu 6 here.

GOF Fifth Battalion Commanding Officer Supt Dimin Awang said the suspect was loading cases of fake alcohol into a car when his team raided the factory around 1.50pm on Saturday (September 5).

“The factory has been in operation for the last four months and was used as a processing center and storage space for the fake alcohol of various brands.

“We believe that the counterfeit items packaged here were targeting both Johor Baru and Malacca,” he told a news conference on Saturday.

Supt Dimin said that a total of 321 boxes containing 9,608 bottles of fake alcohol were seized during the raid along with a car, worth about RM1,000 in total.

“We also found another 410 liters of fake alcohol in barrels that had not yet been bottled,” he said.

He added that the factory had three other workers who took turns filling and labeling the bottles.

“They targeted foreign workers and the items were sold cheaply, between RM20 and RM30 each.

“I want to remind the public to immediately report illegal activities like this to the authorities, as drinking fake alcohol could result in alcohol poisoning, which has happened before,” he said.

The case is being investigated under the Customs Law and the suspect was handed over to the Kluang District Police Headquarters, Supt Dimin said.
