During the period between 12 noon yesterday and 12 noon today, there were 108 more deaths, bringing the total cumulative deaths to 7,940 now.

The East Jawa province recorded the highest total death toll with 2,515 people, followed by Jakarta (1,265), Central Jawa (1,076), South Sulawesi (370) and the rest in the other regions of Indonesia.

According to the ministry, 2,220 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 136,401.

The virus has spread to the 34 provinces of the country.

Meanwhile, East Jakarta’s Pondok Ranggon Cemetery expects to run out of space for Covid-19 graves in October due to the recent increase in burial numbers.

Nadi, the cemetery administration official, said there was only room left for another 1,100 burials in the southern 7,000-square-meter area of the cemetery.

“Capacity is likely to be critical in mid-October,” Nadi said on Saturday, quoted by kompas.com.

It is estimated that, during October, the remaining land will only be able to house between 380 and 400 bodies.

Nadi said the average number of bodies buried in Pondok Ranggon Cemetery was 700 a month. In August, an average of 27 bodies were buried per day.

“Aug. 31 set a record with 36 bodies buried that day, the highest number since I was put in charge in March,” he said.

Since the establishment of the Pondok Ranggon Cemetery as a Covid-19 burial site in March, the cemetery authorities have opened eight new plots and buried 2,623 bodies.

“We use parcel numbers 91 to 99[(forCovid-19graves)exceptforparcelnumber97whichisusedforthegeneralpublic[(paralastumbasCovid-19)exceptolaparcelanúmero97queseusaparaelpúblicoengeneralUnaparcelapuedealbergarde240a300cuerpos”dijoNadi[(forCovid-19graves)exceptplotnumber97whichisusedforthegeneralpublicAplotcanaccommodate240to300bodies”saidNadi

Regarding the possibility of the cemetery reaching its limit in October, Nadi admitted that his party had not drawn up any plans.

He only hoped that the number of Covid-19 cases and thus the death toll would drop so that there would be fewer bodies of virus patients to bury. – The Jakarta Post / Asian News Network
