PETALING JAYA: The police here have paralyzed an Ah Long union with the arrest of nine men and one woman.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said police raided a premises in Taman Sri Bahtera, Cheras around 2 pm on Wednesday (September 2).

“The raid followed a report we received from a 32-year-old man on August 12, who claimed that he had borrowed RM3,000 from them.

“He claimed that even after paying off the debt, loan sharks continued to harass him, threatening to stain his house with red paint and distribute his photos to the public,” ACP Nik Ezanee said in a statement on Thursday (September 3).

He said the suspects were true to their word and splattered red paint on the front porch and door of the victim’s home.

“We detained nine men and one woman between the ages of 20 and 49 during the raid.

“We confiscated 49 mobile phones and 49 SIM cards, including the mobile phone and the SIM card that was used to contact the victim,” he said, adding that all nine have been in pre-trial detention for two days.

He said the case was classified under Section 5 (2) of the Lenders Act for not having a valid license to lend money.

“We are now investigating whether the union has been involved in similar cases within the jurisdiction of the Petaling Jaya police district,” he said.
