KOTA KINABALU: DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng claims that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) lied by denying that they had tried to prevent him from entering Sabah on Tuesday night.

He also alleged that the commission had also invaded Sabah’s rights by violating the immigration powers of the Chief Minister of Sabah.

“Sabah’s Acting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has personally confirmed to me that a news report quotes him as saying that I was initially prevented from entering Sabah because I was on the MACC watch list. This proves that MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki was lying when he denied that MACC had imposed restrictions on me to enter Sabah, ”the Bagan deputy said in a statement today.

“They gave me a social visit pass at 11:54 pm on Tuesday night, and when I was about to get into a vehicle to leave the airport. I was called back to the immigration office at Kota Kinabalu airport. They told me that my entry to Sabah was “blocked” by MACC. After insisting on the issue for some time that only the Chief Minister of Sabah and not MACC can block me from entering Sabah, the immigration officers let me out after 40 minutes.

“Now that Shafie had confirmed that he did not prohibit me from entering Sabah, but was informed by the director of the Sabah Immigration Department that the ‘lockdown’ order was given by the MACC, Azam Baki should clarify and tell the truth. If the MACC can lie about such a simple matter, there is a real concern that MACC is deliberately targeting me solely for political reasons, ”Lim added.
