Previously, we wrote that the recently updated S Pen was one of our favorite features on the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Series. Updated? How is that? Well, that is what you are about to find out. In this article, we will show what you can do now with the stylus.

On top of that, we experienced how the new Samsung Notes works with the S Pen, as Samsung said the app is much more useful now. This includes the audio marker and how well the S Pen syncs with the app. Without further ado, here it is how the new S Pen and Samsung Notes can boost your productivity.

S Pen: the Bluetooth wand

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – the S Pen has finally reached its full potential by becoming a Bluetooth wand. In 2018, with the Galaxy Note 9, you could only use the stylus to take photos (which is still convenient), play / pause videos, and control a slideshow or photo album without touching the phone. Fast forward to 2020, Samsung has now integrated five new Air Action gestures into the stylus, allowing you to do more commands than ever.

So what are the new Air Action gestures? At the moment, the default settings are listed below:

  • Bottom Left to Right: Back Navigation
  • Bottom, right-left: go to a recent app
  • Up and down: go to the home page
  • Bottom and top: smart selection
  • Zigzag: screen writing (or screenshot)

I am not an artist, but the friendly user interface helped me draw this.

That’s not all, you can also customize the gestures to perform other tasks like browsing, creating a note, and opening an app. Personally, I don’t use the S Pen much, but I can imagine that Air Action gestures are useful and convenient for business men and women, as well as those who are fans of the stylus. Ah, let’s not forget digital artists too, as the S Pen response time has been improved to 9ms on the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G.

Samsung Notes – Much Better and Link to Windows

Samsung also mentioned that the Samsung Notes app has now been improved during their #Unpacked event. They only showed a few features in the app, like the audio marker and the link to Windows, but it turns out there are more features than we think! If you’re the type who likes to take notes on the go, there are some tools that can help you organize your texts conveniently.

You can also convert your writing to text immediately

So here’s a scenario, imagine going through your notes after a meeting. The words are probably all over the place because you used the stylus but don’t worry, you can use smart selection to highlight the words and convert them to text format. Even better if your manager wants a translated text, as you can simply translate the words on the spot without having to consult the Internet. Talk about saving time!

By the way, Samsung Notes will be able to sync with OneNote in a web browser and Windows 10 soon from November 2020. There is also the Link to Windows feature, which allows you to open applications directly on your PC or laptop. Setting it up is pretty easy too! Find the Link to Windows option in your notification bar, follow the steps and voila ~, now you can work and reply to messages simultaneously.

Link to Windows overview

So what do you think of these new updates for the S Pen and Samsung Notes app? Personally, the fact that you can use Link to Windows to connect to any PC and laptop makes your work life easier. We can’t wait for the OneNote integration in November either!
