M’sian nurse among 690 new cases of Covid-19 in S’pore on April 29

SINGAPORE (Bernama): A Malaysian working in the public health sector was among the 690 new positive cases of Covid-19 reported in Singapore on Wednesday (April 29).

In a statement, the Ministry of Health of the Republic (MOH) said that the patient, labeled Case 15,237, had no history of recent travel to affected countries or regions.

The 23-year-old nurse from the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID) reported the onset of symptoms on April 23, and the test results confirmed Covid-19 infection.

Before entering the hospital, the nurse, who is currently in the NCID, had been on medical leave and had only gone to work for a few hours, the ministry said.

The Ministry of Health said that to date, 1,188 cases of Covid-19 infection had been discharged or were in isolation facilities in the community, 22 were in critical condition in the intensive care unit and 14 had died.

Singapore also identified five more new groups at 11, Defu Lane 1; 106, international highway; 33, Senoko Way; 17, Shaw Road; and 182, Woodlands Industrial Park E5.

The republic’s largest group, S11 Dormitory @ Punggol, has a total of 2,436 confirmed cases now.

Singapore did not report imported cases, 11 cases in the community and 19 work permit holders residing outside the dormitories.

Meanwhile, about 95% of Wednesday’s new cases of 690 involved dorm residents.

The ministry noted that 63% were linked to known groups, while the rest would be identified pending the follow-up of contacts.

Singapore’s current count is 15,641 cases. – Bernama
