KUALA LUMPUR: Three men were arrested for driving while intoxicated, while five others were arrested for illegal racing after an operation in the city on the eve of National Day.

The head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT), Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya, said the three men were detained at Jalan Duta Mas and Jalan Kepong on Sunday night (August 30).

“Their blood alcohol levels were above the allowed level. Driving under the influence puts not only them in danger, but other road users as well,” he said when contacted on Monday (August 31). ).

It added that five boys between the ages of 15 and 19 were arrested for illegal racing near Dataran Merdeka and Duke Highway.

“They were performing stunts on their motorcycles, like wheelies, and driving zigzags. The suspects were driving dangerously,” he said.

A total of 1,138 citations were issued for various offenses, including speeding, random parking, as well as traveling and driving without valid licenses, said ACP Zulkefly.

“The operation involved eight senior officers and 72 staff members.

“It was held in various places, including Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Tun Perak, Cheras and Wangsa Maju,” he added.

ACP Zulkefly said that JSPT will continue to carry out these types of operations to curb traffic violations among road users.

“We advise everyone to respect existing laws for everyone’s safety,” he said.
