Health Director General Dr Noor Hisham says groups were detected on a ship in Port Klang and at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar.

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has identified two new Covid-19 clusters today in Selangor and Kedah.

Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the MV Glen group in Selangor was detected on a ship in Port Klang, while the Telaga group in Kedah was identified at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar.

He said the first case in the MV Glen group was a member of the ship’s foreign crew, which was reported as an imported case on August 25.

The second case is that of a Malaysian who was an agent appointed by the shipping company. Six other people who were in contact with any of them tested negative so far.

“Preventive and control measures such as disinfection and sanitation have been carried out on the ship. The source of infection is still under investigation, ”he said today in a statement.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said that Telaga’s group involved two healthcare workers at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, who were not involved in caring for Covid-19 patients.

He said 374 people have been tested so far, including family members, hospital staff and others, of whom 372 tested negative.

“In the involved premises, preventive and control measures such as cleaning and disinfection have been carried out.

“The services of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital have not been affected and will continue as normal,” he said, adding that, as a control measure, more specific tests would be carried out in hospitals across the country.

Noor Hisham also said the source of the infection in the Telaga conglomerate was still being investigated, adding that it was very likely from the community.
