The latest tweet from the late American actor Chadwick Boseman’s account announcing the death of the 43-year-old from colon cancer is now the most liked tweet of all time, according to Twitter.

Twitter announced it with a retweet of the post from Boseman’s account: “Most liked tweet. A tribute fit for a king. #WakandaForever”, referencing the actor’s most famous role to date: the titular superhero in Black Panther (2018) and the king of a fictional African nation known as Wakanda.

The tweet, which posted a black and white photo of Boseman along with a statement announcing his death and a previously undisclosed diagnosis of colon cancer, has more than 6.2 million likes and three million retweets. It was posted at 10.11am on Saturday (Aug 29) Singapore time.

Twitter said in a statement: “Fans are gathering on Twitter to celebrate the life of Chadwick Boseman, and the tweet sent from his account last night is now the most liked tweet of all time on Twitter.”

The company has also reinstalled the Black Panther hashtag emoji after Boseman’s death.

The tweet that I liked the most of all time was that of the account of the former president of the United States, Barack Obama.

Obama tweeted a quote from Nelson Mandela in August 2017, in the wake of the Charlottesville, Vriginia car attack, in which a man drove his car into a crowd of peaceful protesters who had been protesting against white supremacists.

It said: “No one is born hating another person because of the color of their skin, their origin or their religion.”

The tweet has 4.3 million likes and 1.6 million retweets. – The Straits Times / Asia News Network
