PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health has identified two new Covid-19 clusters, which are detected in Selangor and Kedah.
Its CEO, Tan Sri, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that a group had emerged aboard a ship in Port Klang, Selangor.
He said eight people from the group have been tested, two tested positive and six tested negative.
“The index case is case 9,286, which tested positive on August 25. The index case is a member of the ship’s crew,” he said in a statement on Sunday (August 30), adding that the index case has been admitted to Sungai. Buloh Hospital.
He added that the index case was an imported case involving a non-Malaysian, while the second case was a local broadcast involving a Malaysian who was the designated agent for the shipping company.
Active case detection, he said, is underway and the source of the infection is still under investigation.
“The log-in and log-out health assessment is also important because this is one of the border controls established to curb the entry of potentially Covid-19 positive people into the country,” he added.
The other group was identified at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Kedah, in which two cases were found among members of the hospital staff.
The new case in this group, which was reported on Sunday, was a close contact of the index case, which tested positive on August 24.
The new cases are asymptomatic and have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
“The two cases are health personnel in the hospital, however, their functions do not involve the care of patients positive to Covid-19,” he said.
As of noon Sunday, 374 people had been examined, including family members and other hospital staff.
Only the two cases tested positive, while the other 372 people tested negative.
“The services offered at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital will not be affected and will continue as usual.
“The source of the infection is still under investigation, but there is a strong possibility that it originated in the community.
“As an additional measure, more specific tests will be carried out at the hospital.
“There have also been precautionary measures and infection control such as sanitation processes,” he said.
