MIRI: A group of animal conservation activists have expressed outrage at the blatant killing of numerous wild animals that allegedly occurred in Sarawak.

The Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Center alleged that the killing of the wild animals took place in Sarawak and was carried out by a group of Sarawak hunters during the movement control order period implemented to control the spread of Covid -19.

The center said the hunters have posted photos on social media to brag about their killing of wildlife.

The hunted animals included bears, deer, macaques, porcupines and other endangered animals, the center said on Friday (May 15).

“The Sarawak Forest Corporation and law enforcement authorities must investigate this group and stop the killing of wildlife.

“The group members of these hunters are from Sarawak and these activities occurred in Sarawak.

“The hunters appeared to be well equipped with hunting equipment, firearms and trucks,” the center said.

The Star has forwarded the complaints to the headquarters of the Sarawak Forest Corporation in the state capital Kuching.

“Yes, we are already investigating this case,” said a senior compliance officer.

The Star has also sent details of the problem to numerous local native groups to find out if they know of any such hunting activities in rural regions.
