Children in the Gombak welfare home say they have been sodomized and abused for years.

PETALING JAYA: A couple in charge of a social welfare home in Gombak is among eight people arrested last night on charges of sodomy, child abuse and exploitation in the center.

All eight, including the couple’s nephew, will be jailed for four days to aid in investigations.

FMT reported last week about the children’s claims at home that the couple’s nephew had sodomized them for years.

“He (the nephew) was among those arrested at 8 pm yesterday. Investigations are still at an early stage, so I can’t reveal too much, ”Gombak District Police Chief Arifai Tarawe told FMT.

“They will be forwarded until Sunday.”

The couple in charge of the home for children from disadvantaged families was questioned by police on May 5. The 36 children at the center were also questioned.

Last week, a woman who previously stayed at the house for 10 days told FMT that the children confided to her that they had been sodomized in recent years.

They also told him they were forced to work 15 hours each day, doing tasks like packing anchovies for sale or folding ang pows (red packets). She said they were caught by the couple if they did not complete their tasks on time.

The woman, who said she witnessed the abuse, filed a report with the district police headquarters on May 5.

When FMT spoke to the couple on May 5, they said the sodomy allegations were “an old problem” that had already been investigated by police and the Department of Welfare (JKM).

They also claimed that “it was not possible” that their nephew, who helped them care for the children, had committed such acts.
