Wedding planners urge government to reveal SOP at mass meetings after MCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Severely affected by Covid-19’s pandemic and motion control order, wedding associations have urged the government to present their position at mass meetings after the MCO, so that wedding planning can resume.

The president of the Malaysian Wedding Professionals Association (WPAM), Patrick Low, said that although there were 206,253 weddings in the country in 2018, according to the Department of Statistics, it was alarming that couples are not currently planning weddings due to uncertainty. of the duration of the event. the MCO and the protocols that the government will issue in mass meetings after the MCO.

“For the wedding industry to survive and resume after the MCO, we will need to encourage and ensure that couples continue to plan their weddings after the MCO.

“And couples will only do so when the government announces their position at mass meetings,” he said in a press release.

Low said that if mass gatherings are allowed, they would need to know the maximum number of people allowed per gathering, particularly for wedding celebrations and the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that should be implemented, monitored and followed during weddings.

The statement was jointly signed by President of the Wedding Professionals Association (AWP) Leticia Hsu, President of Penang Wedding Professionals Association (PWPA) Low Chin Siang, Malaysian President of Malaysian Weddings and Portraits (MWPPM) Rudy Hirwan, The Malaysian Gifts and Premium Association (MGPA)) President Peh Leong Seng.

According to the statement, the wedding industry is supporting the livelihood of many microentrepreneurs who cover the many segments of the wedding industry.

They include wedding planners, photographers, cinematographers, dress designers, custom tailors, makeup artists, florists, decorators, cake designers.

Others include stationers and printers, entertainers, and masters of ceremonies.

In addition to microentrepreneurs, the segments that make up the wedding ecosystem are hotels, restaurants, convention centers, catering services, publishers that print wedding magazines, and online wedding portals.

Low said that once the government announces such guidelines and protocols, it will allow those in the wedding industry to brief couples on the steps necessary for their wedding celebrations, collaborate with each other to ensure all SOPs are implemented, and adhered to during weddings.

The guidelines will also help revive the wedding industry by encouraging couples to start planning their weddings with clear direction and making reservations with wedding vendors and venues.
