KUALA LUMPUR (April 1): Top Glove Corporation Bhd said that following recent findings against the group by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), no additional issues have been discovered about the work forced.
However, some “rectification and verification work” is required on the previous findings of forced labor, the group said in a statement today.
On March 29, CBP said it ordered personnel at all US ports of entry to begin seizing disposable gloves produced in Malaysia by Top Glove.
The directive came after CBP’s Office of Commerce, in consultation with the Secretary of the Treasury, issued a forced labor ruling against disposable gloves produced by Top Glove.
CBP had said it has enough information to believe that Top Glove used forced labor in the production of disposable gloves.
The world’s largest glove maker had previously said that an independent consultant found no systemic forced labor within the group in January this year.
Top Glove had appointed the consultant to verify the corrective action plans that it implemented to eliminate the presence of forced labor indicators in its practices.
“Top Glove continues to actively engage with CBP to fully address and remediate identified issues immediately.
“We reiterate our strong commitment to the well-being, health and safety of our workforce. Our aim is to be a leading responsible company in Malaysia and around the world, ”added the group.
Shares of Top Glove ended 12 sen or 2.65% higher today at RM4.64, valuing the glove maker at RM38 billion.
