PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): The government will implement the Euro 5 fuel specification to replace Euro 2M diesel starting Thursday (April 1), says Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

The Minister of Environment and Water said that all manufacturers, suppliers and service stations must comply with the implementation in accordance with the Environmental Quality Regulation (Control of Gasoline and Diesel Properties) of 2007 and Environmental Quality (Control of Properties Gasoline and Diesel) (Amendment) Regulation 2021.

“The implementation of the Euro 5 diesel specification is part of the government’s efforts to improve the state of air quality as outlined in the Clean Air Action Plan 2010,” it said on Wednesday (March 31).

According to him, the original date for the implementation of the Euro 5 diesel was September 1, 2020, but on June 10, 2020, the Cabinet decided to postpone the application until April 1 of this year due to limitations faced by the industries and the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tuan Ibrahim said that this nationwide implementation could improve the state of air quality as Euro 5 is cleaner and has a lower sulfur content of 10 parts per million (ppm) compared to the sulfur content of Euro 2M of 500 ppm. – Bernama
