PORT DICKSON: Muslims in the country can receive the Covid-19 injection during the month of Ramadan, as it will not invalidate the mandatory fast.

Prime Minister’s Department Minister (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri noted that the decision was made at a special meeting held by the Muzakarah (debate) Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs two months ago.

He said that the Covid-19 vaccine is allowed during the fasting month as decided by the fatwa council.

“The whole world now allows (vaccination in Ramadan) and more recently we received a view from the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia (Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh) who pointed out the need to get vaccinated even in Ramadan and that he does not break the fast,” he said to journalists at Kolej Uniti Port Dickson, today.

Zulkifli said that the grand mufti’s opinion is in line with the opinion of the country’s fatwa council.

The National Covid-19 Immunization Program with the theme “Protect Yourself, Protect All” is implemented in three phases that began on February 24 by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who became the first person in the country to receive the vaccine.

Previously, Zulkifli, who was a professor at the university, gave laptops to 40 asnaf students (eligible to receive a degree) and encouraged them to continue to excel in their respective fields and contribute to the country. – Called
