Police paralyze drug smuggling syndicate, RM5.2 million worth syabu seized

CITY OF GEORGE: Penang police believe they have arrested a drug syndicate by arresting two men, including a Bangladeshi man, and seizing 144.7 kilograms of syabu, worth RM 5.2 million, in raids on Friday. and last Saturday.

Following the suspect’s arrest, he said, police also seized seven phones and two Volkswagen cars before raiding a terrace house in Teluk Bahang at 5 p.m. last Saturday, where the second suspect, who is a 35-year-old Bangladeshi man , was arrested.

Sahabudin said police found 129.7 kg of syabu, believed to be worth RM 4.6 million, in the house, which is believed to be used as a tent.

He said police also seized two cars, a Ford Ranger and a Toyota Harrier, as well as a Yamaha motorcycle.

The initial investigation found that the union, which had an international drug distribution network, obtained its supply of drugs from Thailand and the contraband was kept at home before being smuggled into Indonesia by sea, it added.

He said the union was believed to be conducting its dealings at sea to avoid detection by authorities.

“The police are tracking the remaining members of the union and are also working with the Indonesian police to track their network in the republic,” he added.

He said both suspects were held in pre-trial detention for seven days to assist in the police investigation for drug trafficking and possession of firearms. Called
