BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police paralyzed a drug processing laboratory operating in a paper mill with the seizure of RM2.9 million worth of syabu and liquid chemicals, and arrested four men in Machang Bubok on Monday.
Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Chief, ACP, Shafee Abd Samad, said that acting on surveillance and intelligence, the police raided the factory at 7:30 pm, during which three suspects who were in the factory were arrested, before catching the fourth suspect in George Town.
“Controls at the factory found that the syabu drug processing laboratory has been in operation since August last year and 66 kilograms of syabu and 37 liters of liquid syabu were seized.
“The police also seized 35 containers with 885 liters of liquid chemicals, equipment and self-improvised machines to produce drugs since they are not available in the market,” he said today at a press conference here.
Shafee said police also seized cash, jewelry, three vehicles and three bank accounts believed to belong to the union, worth RM281,726.
He said investigations found that the union processed syabu for 24 hours and was able to produce 40 to 50 kg of drugs every 45 days and make a profit of hundreds of thousands of ringgit each month.
He added that the RM2.9 million worth of drugs were believed to be for the use of 400,000 drug addicts, as well as for local distribution.
Three of the suspects tested positive for drugs and all of the suspects, ages 38 to 49, have been detained for seven days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952. – Called
