PETALING JAYA: With a series of Covid-19 cases concentrated in wet markets, the Ministry of Health is waiting for a report from the Department of Veterinary Services on whether the virus is present in livestock.

Director General of Health Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Photo)However, he said that food is safe to consume as long as it is cooked.

“There are many who are concerned about this problem, but as of now, there have been no foodborne infections.

“If we look at a chicken factory, for example, we are waiting for a report from the department on whether the virus is present in livestock.

“But what we do know from our own actions is that when we cook food, the virus will die, if the virus is present in food.

“Right now, we don’t know if the virus is present in food in the first place. We are awaiting a study by the Department of Veterinary Services on that, ”he said at his daily briefing in Putrajaya on Monday (May 11).
