Severe defeat at GE14 returns MCA to its original purpose

KUALA LUMPUR: The severe defeat it suffered in the XIV General Election (GE14) has given MCA a chance to reflect on itself and has returned it to its original purpose: to develop Malaysia for all Malaysians.

MCA Youth Chief Datuk Nicole Wong Siaw Ting said that after the defeat, the party also pledged to continue to play its role in the fight for social justice, racial harmony and national development.

“We want to tell people, especially the Chinese community, that we received your message, which was delivered to us at GE14 on May 9, 2018, and we have taken some time to reflect on ourselves.”

He said so at the MCA Youth Hybrid 56th Annual General Meeting (AGM) launched today by Vice President Datuk Dr. Mah Hong Soon.

In GE14, the MCA only managed to win one of the 39 parliamentary seats and two of the 90 state seats it contested, the worst defeat in its history.

Wong, who is the first woman to hold the position of MCA Youth Chief, said that the defeat of GE14 should not be an excuse for the party to give up everything, as she believes that the party, which has entered In its 72nd year of establishment, it still has what it takes to win back people’s hearts.

“We all have to work harder, learn from our mistakes, be brave to reach out to people, close the gap, listen to people and help solve their problems,” he said.
