KUCHING: The state government should propose a special Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for some business sectors that are still unable to operate under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) to allow them to resume operations soon, Padungan Assemblyman Wong King said . Wei
Wong said that since almost all business sectors were allowed to resume operations starting tomorrow (May 12), the state government should consider the same policy for companies that are still unable to operate, such as the barber, salons beauty and photography stores.
“Almost all commercial activities have ceased for almost two months. If certain sectors are still unable to operate, we will see further business closings, which will result in a higher unemployment rate, “he added.
However, Wong said he understands the difficulty the state government faces when it comes to striking a balance between containing the spread of Covid-19 and economic recovery.
However, he said the state government should not neglect companies that had posted zero revenue since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
“What puzzles me is that the government will allow meetings of no more than 20 people and outdoor activities involving no more than 10 people during the upcoming holiday celebrations. If such activities are allowed, why can’t hairdressers and beauty salons involving individual activities be allowed? “he questioned.
Wong, therefore, proposed that the state government submit special SOPs for the aforementioned companies to resume operations without jeopardizing efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19.
He said companies could resume operations based on appointments and with a limited number of clients.
In addition to that, Wong also proposed that the state government offer special financial aid to commercial operators in sectors that are not allowed to operate so that they can survive the current Covid-19 pandemic.
