KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Attorney General’s Office (AGC) today opposed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim requesting authorization for judicial review to challenge Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision to advise Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri ‘ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to suspend Parliament during the emergency period.

Senior Federal Counsel (SFC) Ahmad Hanir Hambaly said an objection was raised on the basis that Anwar’s request for judicial review was rejected by Article 150 (6) and Article 150 (8) of the Federal Constitution.

“Today is scheduled to hear the request for judicial review by the applicant (Anwar). However, the AGC opposed the request, and after hearing the arguments of the parties involved, the court set March 11 for the parties present their presentations in response, ”he told reporters after the case was processed, carried out through a videoconference before the Superior Court Judge Datuk Seri Mariana Yahya.

The proceedings were also attended by SFC S. Narkunavathy and Federal Attorney Mohammad Sallehuddin Md Ali, while Anwar was represented by Attorneys Ramkarpal Singh and Sangeet Kaur Deo.

Meanwhile, Sangeet, when contacted by reporters, confirmed the matter.

On January 25, Anwar, who is also the deputy from Port Dickson, filed the request to initiate a judicial review by naming the prime minister and the government as defendants.

He requested a judicial declaration that the decision of the Cabinet, led by Muhyiddin, to advise Al-Sultan Abdullah to enact Section 14 of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021, which resulted in the suspension of Parliament, is unconstitutional, illegal. , it has no effect and is ultra vires.

Anwar also requested a declaration that Section 14 of the Emergency Ordinance is incompatible with Article 150 (3) and (5) of the Federal Constitution and therefore unconstitutional and invalid, in addition to requesting a mandamus order to that both defendants advise Al-Sultan Abdullah to repeal said section.

The opposition leader also submitted a request to refer four legal questions to the Federal Court related to the same (emergency) issue. – Bernama
