Fu Ah Kiow resigns as director of Star Media Group, chairman of the board

PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group Bhd (SMG) announced that Independent Non-Executive Chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow (Photo) has resigned as director and chairman of the board.

In a statement, SMG said that Fu’s resignation will take effect from March 1, 2021 and that the board will make the necessary effort to identify a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy as soon as possible.

Fu said it was an honor and a privilege to serve on the SMG board and expressed his gratitude to all directors, management, and staff for their support, cooperation, patience and understanding during his tenure as chairman of the board.

He submitted his resignation from the board at a meeting on February 25, 2021, and said it was time to make way for new leadership and that he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Fu said that SMG, after a restructuring exercise, now has a capable, united, dedicated and young senior management team and with the appointment of Alex Yeow Wai Siaw as the new CEO of the Group to lead the team, Fu expressed his confidence in the transformation programs eventually undertaken. bear fruit and propel the group to new heights.

He urged all directors, management and staff to give Yeow their utmost support and cooperation to ensure the future success of the group.

With his resignation, Fu also resigned as president of the Star Foundation, SMG’s charitable arm.

Fu was appointed an independent non-executive director of SMG on February 27, 2014 and had been chairman of the board since May 21, 2014.

The SMG board of directors expressed their greatest thanks to Fu for his contribution and stewardship of the group.
