BUKIT MERTAJAM: The police have rescued a Cambodian woman in her 30s after she was allegedly abused by her employers here.
Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Shafee Samad said that police raided a house in Jalan Perpaduan, Kampung Baru here after receiving a report of the incident around 9:30 pm on Wednesday (February 24).
“The police arrived at the scene and found the victim on the floor of a room in the house.
“Physical examinations found wounds on his face, as well as burn marks on his arm, as well as scars and scratching marks on his arms and legs.
“The victim alleged that she was abused by her employer, that they beat her, poured hot water and pinched her,” he said.
ACP Shafee added that the victim, who has served the family for the past two years, was taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital for a medical checkup.
It said a couple in their 50s and 60s were arrested to facilitate investigations under sections 13 and 44 of the Anti-Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007.
Since then, the couple have been in pretrial detention for six days until March 2.
