Temporary suspension of IDSS and PDT short sales extended until August 29

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 22): Malaysia Securities Commission (SC) and Bursa Malaysia Bhd will extend temporary suspension of Intraday Short Selling (IDSS) and Intraday Short Selling by Owned Day Traders ( short sale PDT) until August 29, 2021.

The IDSS and PDT short sale suspension, which went into effect on March 24 of last year, would expire on February 28, 2021.

The suspension was introduced as part of proactive measures by regulators to mitigate potential risks from increased volatility and global uncertainties.

“The additional six-month suspension of the short sale of IDSS and PDT, which are used primarily as a daily trading strategy, will allow Bursa to improve control measures for intra-day short sale activities, in order to promote stability. market and strengthen the integrity of the capital market.

“With this extension of the suspension, the temporary waivers related to the PDT will also be extended until August 29, 2021. These extensions do not affect regulated short sales (RSS), which are in effect after the lifting of their suspension on 1 January 2021, ”the two regulators said in a joint statement.

Regulators said they will continue to monitor developments affecting the stock market and assess the adequacy of existing measures to support a fair and orderly market, as well as mitigate potential risks.
