PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed the arrest of Perak PKR Vice President MA Tinagaran, including the seizure of cash totaling RM1.2 thousand, following project-linked corruption investigations.

MACC confirmed that it had detained a vice president of a political party, who has ties to a former minister, on suspicion of receiving bribes from several companies that acquired a project from a ministry in 2019.

“Two directors of the company in Ipoh were also detained on Tuesday night (February 16),” the MACC said in a statement on Wednesday (February 17).

The bribery busters said it had also seized RM1.2 thousand, believed to be bribery money, which was kept in a home and office of a proxy for the former minister and vice president.

“A luxury car used by the former minister as an official car was also seized and believed to belong to a director of the company whose project was approved,” added MACC.

So far, MACC said that several companies and individual accounts totaling RM77,000 have been frozen following ongoing investigations.

The MACC has requested that all parties stop speculating on the case, pending the outcome of the investigations.

Tinagaran, who was arrested on February 16, is reported to have been in pretrial detention for six days to assist in the MACC investigation involving an engineering company.
