PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health detected 19 new Covid-19 clusters on Tuesday (February 16), bringing the total number of active clusters across the country to 499.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said 14 of the new groups are infections discovered in the workplace.

Most workplace clusters are those found from screening exercises targeting workers.

One of the new conglomerates with a high number of positive cases is the “Tapak Bina Jalan Segambut conglomerate”, which is linked to a construction site in Kuala Lumpur.

Dr Noor Hisham said 173 positive cases were found out of 483 people who underwent the targeted screening exercise.

Four groups are classified as community outbreaks, while one is classified as a high-risk group.

The group of high-risk groups, dubbed the “Jalan Geronggang group,” involves older people in a nursing home in Sibu, Sarawak.

Dr. Noor Hisham said 41 people had to be tested after the group’s index case, a 77-year-old woman, tested positive on February 11.

“All 41 people tested in the group were found to be positive,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

A community group in Kapit, Sarawak was found to be linked to a funeral.

Dr Noor Hisham said the index case, a 48-year-old man, had taken a Covid-19 test and tested positive on February 14.

A total of 86 people had to be tested and 14 people in the group tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Dr. Noor Hisham said that nine clusters have been officially declared terminated, after no new cases were recorded in the past 28 days.
