A urine test on the man immediately after his arrest showed that he was drugged.

KUALA LUMPUR: A man believed to have been driving under the influence of drugs was arrested when he tried to ram a police checkpoint in Desa Jaya, Gombak last night.

Police ordered the 45-year-old man to stop his vehicle on the side of the road for a more detailed inspection at the roadblock at 12:45 a.m., but instead sped off.

Gombak District Police Chief Arifai Tarawe said police pursued him as the man was driving his vehicle into the residential area of Perdana Puri, about 300 meters from the roadblock.

“However, the suspect then made a U-turn and sped toward the same roadblock, nearly hitting a police officer on duty,” he said in a statement today.

He said the man then abruptly stopped his car before backing up and hitting the road divider near the roadblock, allowing police to stop him.

Subsequent checks revealed that the man had noted 11 cases on his criminal record, most of them drug-related and one robbery-related.

“A urine test was done on the suspect and it came back positive for drugs. The suspect is in preventive detention for seven days from today, “he added.
