PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has threatened to sue Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi for his comments on the three-day observation rule for ministers returning from abroad.
In a Facebook post earlier today, Puad had questioned whether the new rule was related to the return of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin from his official visit to Indonesia last Friday.
He asked if the claims of a commotion that had occurred at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang due to the mandatory quarantine process were true and if that was the reason why the new rule had now been implemented.
The rule is contained in a new ministerial order that will be in effect from today until August 1, requiring that ministers only submit to observation for three days or under surveillance until they can be discharged without danger to the public.
In a statement, the PMO said there was no truth to Puad’s comments.
“The prime minister received a home surveillance order and a (quarantine) bracelet as soon as he returned from Jakarta, Indonesia, on February 5.
“He is quarantined at home,” the PMO said.
Describing Puad’s comments as malicious, the PMO said that legal action will be taken against the former MP if he does not openly apologize to the prime minister.
Members of the public have voiced dissatisfaction with the new rule that exempts cabinet members returning from official visits from having to undergo the mandatory 10-day quarantine, saying it reeks of double standards.
On social media, many are demanding that Health Minister Dr. Adham Baba resign over the matter.
