On Facebook, Muhyididn expressed hope that his latest accolade will spur others to pursue similar success.

“I would like to share my proud feelings with all fans of the sport in the country, especially squash, about the success of the former national squash queen, Datuk Nicol Ann David, who has just been crowned the greatest athlete of all time. Yesterday.

“The victory shows that her contribution, sweat and action all this time has continued to be noticed by the world, despite the fact that the former world number one for 109 consecutive months has hung up her racket.

“I hope that Nicol’s success motivates all Malaysians to fight back and make the country proud in whatever field they are involved in. For the younger generation getting used to the sport and the players still developing, take advantage of Nicol’s success. as fuel to go further, ”Muhyiddin said.

David received a total of 318,943 votes, beating tug of war champion Jame Kehoe, and weightlifter Larysa Soloviova by more than 200,000 votes.

The poll counted 24 athletes and concluded at 11 pm on Sunday.

Altogether, 1,204,637 votes had been cast.

Since then, Malaysians have taken to social media platforms to congratulate David.

Before his retirement in 2019, David had dominated the international squash scene, having held the number one world ranking for 108 consecutive months, a record.
