Liverpool in shock speaks for Preston defender as youngster leaves

Various sources suggest that Liverpool are set to make a raid in late January to sign Preston North End defender Ben Davies.

The Reds have struggled with defensive injuries this season, with Virgil van Dijk your biggest loss. The Dutch ace will miss most of the season while Joe gomez it is also a long absence.

Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp has repeatedly stated that he will not bring in a new defender this month. The German has remained firm despite the fall of his team and the losing streak of results.

But it may be that he’s giving in, with journalist Pete O’Rourke tweeting that they’re interested in Davies. Daily mail Reporter Dominic King tweeted a similar line, with a proposed £ 2 million fee for the 25-year-old.

It also suggests that the Liverpool youth Sepp van den berg will head to Deepdale on loan as part of the deal.

Davies will be out of contract at the end of the season. Glasgow giants Celtic are known fans and had tried to get him to sign a pre-contract deal.

However, with Liverpool now in the picture, your interest may fade.

Davies rose through Preston’s junior ranks and made his senior debut in 2013 when he was 17 years old. He struggled to secure a regular starting position and was loaned out to various clubs.

The Barrow-in-Furness-born plug spent time with York, Tranmere, Southport, Newport County, and Fleetwood. He managed to establish himself in the North End first team in the 2017-2018 campaign.

The center-back has accumulated 145 appearances in all of the Lilywhites’ competitions. He has long been linked to a move away from the championship club, but the link to Liverpool has emerged out of nowhere.

Preston is eleventh in the championship and six points from the play-off table. They could lose Davies for nothing in the summer, so a fee this month would be welcome.

Van den Berg’s move makes sense

Van den Berg, 19, has yet to enjoy a high-level outing with Liverpool. He made three League Cup appearances in 2019-2020 and played once in the FA Cup.

Sepp van den Berg TEAMtalk

After rising through the youth ranks at PEC Zwolle, he made his first-team debut at just 16 years old. After 23 starts, he moved to Merseyside in June 2019 and has mainly played for the U-23s.

A change to the second division club would give him valuable experience in competitive football.
