MELAKA: The plight of a food delivery driver who was issued a compound for violating the motion control order draws the attention of state police.
Deputy Commissioner Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali (Photo) said he will verify the justification for delivering the compound to 29-year-old Micheal Un Chee Wee on January 22.
“I will check the status and the reason,” DCP Abdul Majid said when contacted on Monday night (January 25).
When interviewed, Un said he parked his car at Jalan Eyes of Malaysia in Kota Laksamana here at 6:50 pm on Friday (Jan 22).
“Three plainclothes police officers approached me and asked what I was doing at the scene.
“I explained to them that I was waiting for the next food order to be delivered and the restaurant I worked for was only five minutes from where I parked,” he said.
One said he even told police that he had a letter from his employer to show that he was tasked with delivering food.
“The restaurant has a series of orders during MCO and each time, I have to wait on site for the next delivery,” he said.
The UN said he received a salary of RM 1,400 a month as a delivery driver.
“I can only pay the compound of RM1,000 in two installments,” he said.
One then decided to seek the help of Kota Laksamana Assemblyman Low Chee Leong on the matter.
“I have the Melaka Police Chief to thank for investigating my situation,” he said.
Low said he will take the UN to meet with DCP Abdul Majid on Tuesday (January 26).
