A Johor woman took to Twitter to complain that she was fined for not wearing a mask in a cafe, even though it was not full at the time.

PETALING JAYA: Johor police have denied the claim that a cafe owner was fined for not wearing a face mask even though she was not in a crowded public place.

The woman, from Segamat, Johor, had shared her discontent on Twitter.

She confronted the officer about why she was fined as the rules only require people to wear masks in crowded areas.

In response to the matter, Johor Police Chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said people were entering and leaving shops and premises near the cafe at the time of the incident.

“On top of that, there was a cafe worker who was wearing a mask.

“His action of not wearing a face mask could raise the concern of people in the area,” Ayob said in a statement.

He said the police are taking this matter seriously and will not engage with anyone who does not comply with the SOPs set by the government.
