KUCHING (Jan 19): A total of 13 Sibu Hospital staff members tested positive for Covid-19, said State Health Director Dr. Chin Zin Hing.

He said the staff in question have since been admitted to the hospital for treatment and quarantine.

“We have also tracked all of their close contacts, quarantined them, and examined them to test whether they are positive for Covid-19 or not,” he told a press conference today.

In light of this, he said it was inevitable that there would be a shortage of staff at Sibu Hospital.

“As such, we have mobilized staff from other hospitals and clinics to assist Sibu Hospital to make sure the hospital can still function,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chin advised those who feel unwell or experience any signs or symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, or loss of sense of taste and smell to seek immediate treatment at their nearby health clinic and to stay at home.

“Please don’t go out and mix with the outsiders. Go get a check-up at the clinic and, if necessary, get tested for Covid-19 ”, he emphasized.

He said the State Health Department had discovered that there were symptomatic people still coming out and that it was unwise.

“At that time, these people may be positive for Covid-19, but they have not been tested or detected.

“So when they go out into public areas, they may be at risk of transmitting the infectious disease to contacts they know or to the general public,” he said.
