PETALING JAYA: The government’s RM15bil Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat Malaysia (Permai) assistance package can better help Malaysians and industry players cope with the Covid-19 pandemic, says Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong.

“The ministry thanks Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Ministry of Finance for introducing Permai.

“Under Permai, 22 initiatives based on three main objectives will be implemented, which is to combat Covid-19, protect the well-being of people and strengthen the survival of companies,” the Transport Minister said in a statement on Monday (18 of January).

Dr Wee said that transportation industry players will benefit from various Permai initiatives, namely RM500 financial assistance for taxi drivers, school buses, tour buses, rental cars, e-call drivers and tour guides. .

He said applications for RM500 financial assistance can be made through the Public Land Transportation Agency (Apad), adding that the agency will release more information soon.

“So far, existing records show that around 600 qualified applicants have not yet registered with Apad, which may delay the distribution of financial aid,” added Dr. Wee.

Dr Wee said that the bus and taxi rental purchase rehabilitation scheme will benefit many players in the transport industry, as under that initiative, there will be a 50% guarantee on financing selected buses, such as buses. tourist and taxis of rental and leasing companies.

According to Dr. Wee, this initiative, where RM1bil was allocated, is to allow bus and taxi operators to restructure their respective loans and enjoy a 12-month bank moratorium, as well as a lower monthly payment.

“The ministry hopes that Permai will provide relief to Malaysia as a whole, especially to the transport industry players, to get through the difficult times due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.
