PETALING JAYA: The automotive industry can resume operations as of today, following an update in the list of essential services under the motion control order (MCO).
In the latest version of the 2021 Regulation for the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within infected local areas) (Movement control), automotive equipment has been included in the manufacturing and production section.
Auto assembly was initially listed as an essential industry, but officials withdrew it at the last minute Tuesday night.
Toyota Motor and Honda Motor previously halted operations at various plants in Malaysia due to the implementation of the second MCO, while Perodua suspended production on Thursday.
Honda had announced that it would restart operations on January 26, the end date of the MCO, while a Toyota representative had said “a decision will be made later” on its reopening.
