Covid-19: record of 3,337 reported cases, 15 deaths bring death toll to 578

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia reported 3,337 more Covid-19 infections on Thursday (Jan 14), a new daily record for the country.

Before this, the highest number of cases in one day was 3,309, which was recorded just two days ago on January 12.

There were also 15 deaths from Covid-19 on Thursday, bringing the death toll to 578.

The country now has 147,855 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.

On the same day, 1,710 Covid-19 patients were discharged, which means that 113,288 people in the country have recovered from the virus.

The number of people with active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia now stands at 33,989.

Currently, 195 patients are in intensive care and 86 require respiratory assistance.

Seven of Thursday’s cases were imported infections, while the rest were local transmissions.

Selangor again posted the largest increase of the day of any state with 1,036 new cases, followed by Johor with 460 cases and Sabah with 389.

The number of cases reported in the remaining states is as follows:

Kuala Lumpur (257 cases), Penang (234), Sarawak (180), Negri Sembilan (169), Pahang (113), Perak (92), Terengganu (89), Kedah (86), Melaka (85), Labuan ( 34), Putrajaya (25) and Perlis (4).
