KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) has emphasized that the Covid-19 vaccine will not cause long-term harmful side effects on people’s health.

His deputy minister, Ahmad Amzad Hashim, said the vaccine had been clinically tested and would be regulated by the Ministry of Health’s National Drug Regulatory Agency (NPRA).

“All vaccines have side effects, the important thing is that the side effects are not serious or harmful. So far, based on the data we receive, the vaccine has no serious side effects.

“Most of the side effects are temporary, like pain from injections, some may have a fever or nausea,” he said when they first met him after appearing as a guest on Bernama Radio’s Jendela Fikir today.

Amzad said the ministry will channel accurate information about the vaccine to convince and remove skepticism from society, thus achieving the government’s goal of providing the vaccine to 70% of Malaysians throughout the year.

Malaysia has signed an agreement with Pfizer-BioNTech to purchase 12.8 million doses of vaccines and AstraZeneca and several other suppliers will provide another 6.4 million doses.
