PETALING JAYA: It will take 10 days for the Ministry of Health to conduct an active case investigation in the areas surrounding the Jalan Othman market, says Director-General for Health Datuk, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Dr. Noor Hisham said there are an estimated 2,900 people living in the area, which has undergone an improved movement control order (MCO).
“Hopefully by doing this active case detection through screening and testing, we can identify positive cases among the residents there. Once we have identified (the positive cases), we will isolate them and treat them in a hospital,” he said during his daily press conference on Sunday (May 10).
Dr. Noor Hisham said everyone in the area will be screened, whether Malaysian or foreign.
“We will examine all of them. We are observing the locality,” he said, adding that residents in the area should stay home to protect the elderly.
Dr. Noor Hisham also noted that this was their action plan and he hoped they could control the spread of the virus in the area, as in other areas.
“We have certainly seen the success (of this action plan) of OLS one, two and three. This method that we have been doing – active case detection and also by detecting close contacts – has managed to control the entire area, as well as the locality, “he said.
Early Sunday morning (May 10), the area surrounding the Jalan Othman market underwent an improved MCO after the detection of 26 cases of Covid-19 in the area.
Residents are not allowed to leave and visitors or non-residents are prohibited from entering the area during the MCO’s enhanced period.
