KLUANG: The Fire and Rescue Department found the body of a man whose car was washed away by floodwaters on Saturday (January 2).

The victim, identified as Md Rajihan Junaidi, was found on a banana farm about 100 meters from the main road.

Kluang Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Akob Sedek said the body was found around 5 p.m. on Monday (January 4).

“The operation to search for the victim was in its third day with nine firefighters and rescue personnel, nine policemen, 10 personnel from the Malaysian Special Rescue and Disaster Assistance Team (Smart Malaysia) and five from Civil Defense.

“The body of the victim was found on a banana farm about 100 meters from the main road. His body was pulled out of the water using a boat and handed over to the police,” Akob said Monday.

It added that the victim’s car was found on Sunday (January 3) around 6 pm near a drain.

Meanwhile, Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Low Hang Seng confirmed that the victim’s body had been found.

“The incident occurred around 5.30 pm on Saturday at Batu 18 Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing near Kahang.

“The victim had tried to cross the street in her car, but the strong currents pushed her to the right side of the road.

“The victim broke a window to free his wife, who was later rescued by members of the public.

“However, he couldn’t get out in time because the car was swept away by the currents,” he said.

It was previously reported that authorities were looking for the victim who had been dragged into his car after saving his wife’s life.

This is the third life that was lost due to the flood here in Johor.
