BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Six people were found to have antibodies to Covid-19 (coronavirus) in a nationwide random community survey, the Brunei Ministry of Health said on Sunday, May 10.
According to the ministry of health, this Covid-19 survey, which was conducted from May 4 to 6, 2020, aimed to provide an overview of estimated rates of Covid-19 infection among the community in the country, and 527 people from five selected health facilities across the country participated.
Six survey participants had antibodies to the virus, however additional research using a Covid-19 virus smear test has found them negative.
This gives the impression that they may have been infected with the virus, but do not have an active infection at this time.
The results of the type of investigation can help estimate the population’s immunity to a given infection, the health ministry said, adding that the ministry plans to carry out a follow-up investigation in the coming months.
Brunei reported no new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, with a national case count of 141. No new recoveries were recorded on Saturday, keeping the total number of cases recovered at 132.
The number of active cases being handled at the National Isolation Center remains eight. Two patients remain in critical condition.
One of them requires extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and respiratory assistance and one case only requires respiratory assistance. The rest are in stable condition.
There has been one death as a result of the Covid-19 in Brunei.
So far, 132 people remain in quarantine and 2,575 people have completed the quarantine period. Some 15,482 laboratory tests have been performed for COVID-19. – Xinhua / Asian News Network
