67 new cases today, 96 discharged

PETALIZING JAYA: The Ministry of Health announced 67 new positive cases of Covid-19 as of 12 p.m. today, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 6,656.

“Of the new cases reported, 49 of them involved foreigners,” said Director General of Health Datuk, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah. (pix) at his daily press conference in Putrajaya.

Hisham said 18 patients remain in the intensive care unit (ICU), of which 6 require respiratory assistance and a total of 1,525 active cases are receiving treatment.

He added that 96 patients received successful treatment and were discharged, bringing the total number of patients who recovered to 5,025.

No fatalities were reported today, and the death toll remains 108.

He added that, using a targeted approach, the Ministry of Health successfully identified Covid-19 positive groups and isolated patients.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham confirmed that the Jalan Othman wet market in Petaling Jaya and the surrounding business areas have been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control (EMCO) order from today until May 23.

The order was issued after 27 positive Covid-19 cases were reported in the area, with two additional cases reported outside the area.

The Ministry called on all Malays to adhere to government-issued orders to stop the spread of the virus.

As of today, Hisham said a total of 24,125 foreigners have been tested for Covid-19, with 1,132 positives. However, 641 received treatment and were successfully discharged, with four deaths recorded.

Of the 67 cases recorded today, one was from the North City Center and areas around Selayang, and 27 were from the last area under EMCO in the Jalan Othman wet market.

The ministry expects more positive cases to be identified as the conditional motion order (CMCO) continues.
