KUALA LUMPUR: PKR President Anwar Ibrahim says Pakatan Harapan retakes Putrajaya before early elections are held.
At a press conference today, he said that PH is willing to work with parliamentarians outside the coalition, both in the opposition and in government blocs, as long as they agree with the principle of good governance and are sincere in fighting against the corruption.
When asked if PH will focus its efforts on retaking government through elections or on the Dewan Rakyat, it said the coalition was doing both.
“The electoral machinery of the component parties has been meeting and strategizing. At the same time, we continue our efforts (to overthrow the government of Perikatan Nasional).
“I can’t say more than this, but it is a two-pronged attack,” Anwar added.
He also left the door open to work with the former prime minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, again to retake Putrajaya, and said he was willing to work with the president of Pejuang if he adhered to the basic principles of PH.
“As I have said, we are prepared to work with all progressive forces, based on fundamental principles and values.
“Things are very volatile now. We have some from Umno who urge the party to withdraw from the PN and not work with PPBM anymore… so the government is very fragile ”.
In September of last year, Anwar had claimed that he had the numbers to form a new government.
But after an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, Istana Negara revealed that the opposition leader did not present a list of MPs who supported him.
The opposition had also failed to prevent the 2021 budget from being passed in the Dewan Rakyat, which was supposed to be the biggest test for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin due to the government’s slim majority in Parliament.
