PETALING JAYA: A political analyst says the federal opposition would do better if they left Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim.
Jeniri Amir, a senior member of the National Council of Teachers, said that the issue of leadership was the central problem facing the fractured opposition.
He said that Mahathir was no longer relevant to the opposition struggle or the opposition’s need to win the support of Malaysian voters, while Anwar’s credibility had been affected by his inability to prove his claim to have majority support. at the Dewan Rakyat.
Mahathir and Anwar have recently been at the center of verbal exchanges about the future of Pakatan Harapan.
PKR youth leader Akmal Nasir recently said that PH should move from any plan to working with Mahathir, claiming that the former prime minister only wanted to “divide and conquer”, after Mahathir attacked Anwar, who had said that PH he could work with any party, even Mahathir, to form a “great, great coalition.”
Jeniri said PH’s main problem was leadership, which was linked to the lack of an Anwar successor in PKR, the party that holds the opposition together.
“People cannot see where PKR is going or its relevance. The party needs a new leader who can work with all parties and lead the opposition. No more Mahathir or Anwar, ”Jeniri said.
However, political scientist Wong Chin Huat of the Jeffrey Sachs Center for Sustainable Development said Anwar had to take shape and offer new direction or give way to others, such as Warisan chairman Shafie Apdal.
“DAP made it clear, after DAP-Amanah’s initial political restart statement, that it was not calling for a change of leadership.
“This means that if Anwar is willing to lead the opposition camp differently, rather than repeating his mantra of ‘strong, formidable and convincing numbers’, there is no question that DAP, and probably also Amanah, will get rid of the PKR “.
Yet if Anwar persisted in talking the numbers, the conversations about a leadership change would never cease.

The creation of a shadow cabinet would send a strong signal that PH Plus will compete with the Perikatan Nasional-Barisan Nasional-Gabungan Parti Sarawak Plus government in politics and not courting rogue MPs, he said.
Syed Arabi Idid of the International Islamic University of Malaysia said that PH appeared to be losing its way as a coalition and needed to decide its strategy together.
“PH showed cohesion during the Budget vote, although it may not have the numbers for a vote of no confidence against the prime minister. It should be strengthened to face GE15, ”he said.
