SINGAPORE (The Strait Times): Robinsons will close its last store in Raffles City before January 10, ending 162 years of history.

Settlement KordaMentha told The Straits Times that while the last trading day will be no later than next Sunday, the last actual day may come earlier, depending on the remaining stock levels.

“Discounts will continue to update daily, keeping in mind that the intention is to sell shares down to zero,” KordaMentha said on Saturday (Jan 2).

When The Straits Times visited the Raffles City outlet on Saturday afternoon, all three floors were packed, with about 100 people milling around on the third floor, where clothing and household items were being sold.

Some shelves were already empty, while others were filled with makeup, bags, shoes, and men’s clothing.

Discounts were offered for multiple purchases, and customers were able to get 80 percent off the lowest marked item price with a purchase of five or more items.

Accessories and accessories such as hangers, mannequins and shelves were also sold.

Faith Leong, 19, who visited the Raffles City store on New Year’s Day with her family said it was a “shame” that the hardcore retailer was closing.

The department stores had announced on October 30 last year the closure of its last two outlets here, saying the decision to liquidate was due to a variety of factors, including changing consumer tastes and cost pressures. , like rent.

“I still remember buying a dress at Robinsons as a child. It was very exciting because I always received my sister’s heirlooms and it was the first time I chose something new for me,” said the college student.

For most Raffles City staff, their last day will be January 10th.

A few staff members will remain employed for a short period to help with account closings and other matters, KordaMentha said.

From now until January 10, the store will be open between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. – The Straits Times / Asia News Network
