1,388 arrested for violating the RMCO

PETALING JAYA: Despite strict guidelines and standard operating procedures, 623 people chose to ignore them as they ushered in the new year in nightclubs and pubs.

They were among 1,388 people detained for violating the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) regulations.

“Other arrests included: breach of physical distancing (424), failure to wear face masks (137), failure to provide equipment to record client details (118) and others (86),” said Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said in a statement today.

Of the total number of arrests, 1,352 were issued compounds, 32 were arrested and four were released on bail.

Ismail Sabri added that yesterday the police conducted 48,316 checks to make sure SOPs were being met.

“The controls were carried out by 2,435 teams that included 11,200 people. More than 14,000 stores were inspected, including supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks and offices ”.

Transportation centers such as airports and land and water transportation stations were also reviewed.

In addition to that, yesterday a total of 95 illegal immigrants were arrested.

The police, along with the army and border control officers, implemented a total of 105 roadblocks across the country.
