KOTA TINGGI: The Ministry of Health expects an increase in reported Covid-19 cases after mandatory assessments for foreign workers that began on Friday (January 1).

“We expect the number of reported cases to increase in line with the government’s decision to impose a mandatory screening test with the rapid antigen test kit (RTK-Ag).

“The focus will be on foreign workers working in factories, development projects and industries,” he added.

Dr. Adham, who is also the division head of Tenggara Umno, said this when he met after officiating the division meeting held at Dewan Sri Kembaran here on Saturday (January 2).

He also said that a total of 70,000 foreign workers from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur have been examined between August and December last year.

He added that those who tested positive have been quarantined and the ministry will continue with the next contact step to trace any closed contacts with patients.

Dr Adham also said that the government would also add more beds in the Low Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Center at Malaysia’s Serdang Agro Exhibition Park (MAEPS) if necessary.

“We also have to consider those who have been discharged from the facility, so if it is necessary to add beds, we will do it,” he said, adding that the recovery rate at the treatment center is 80%.

Recently, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Malaysia would impose mandatory Covid-19 screening for 1.7 million foreign workers, where employers cover the cost.

On December 24, he said that the National Security Council would enforce the mandatory Covid-19 test under Law 342 (Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act) starting on January 1, where failure to do so will be taken. measures against employers.
